Great piece … but there is another perspective. Making abortion illegal is removing choice and freedom to make decisions on their own from women.

Taking away freedoms is authoritarian the opposite of libertarian. Or you cannot force religion on people who don’t believe in your faith.

It’s a no-go, without any exception.

If you want to lower abortion rates, you need to offer support to women (state aid), and very affordable health care.

Religious people often argue that believing in god will help you navigating all obstacles and hardship, and that in the past it was the norm.

But society has changed on a global scale, you cannot just ignore this and also force your morale principles on others. It’s ignorant and authoritarian hardly an inviting position.

I think that’s the core of this problem, a minority is trying to force it’s ethical principles on the majority. As long as this religious minority isn’t accepting that only reconciliation and compromise will allow a stable and sustainable solution, there will be a never ending conflict.

Not to mention that religion is losing support also in the US. From an European perspective religion has far too much power and influence in US politics, and acts against the freedom of individuals.
